How I got published in The Huffington Post (and how you can too)
Yesterday the article I got published in The Huffington Post went live. I wanted to share with you how I did it, lessons I learned and some of the backstory.
Surround Yourself With Positive Role Models
The reason I even thought about writing for the Huffington Post is because I surrounded myself with driven, high achieving entrepreneurs who were already writing for the Huffington Post. My coach and several of my business buddies have written for the Huffington Post so I thought to myself “I should do that”. Had I not surrounded myself with positive people doing big things this thought would have never even crossed my mind. Even more, had I not had friends that had done it I would have never thought that I could have gotten published in The Huffington Post.
The next step was really just taking the action of writing. This might seem simple but when you are a perfectionist & strategist like me it becomes a daunting task. I was thinking that I needed to have the perfect funnel set up, email sequence, and the list goes on and on. But in reality I just needed a blog post and a pitch email. That is it!
If you are stuck paralyzed by perfectionism like I was, reach out and ask your coach or friends to help you with proofreading the post and remember like I always tell my clients “Be Okay with Version 1.0”. You will likely write other posts for them and this is just the beginning so start where you are. Imperfect action is way better than no action and just thinking, theorizing and being paralyzed.
This goes along with the last one but when I finally had everything together what I did was write the pitch email and sit in fear for a minute. Then after I sent it I immediately texted my husband and said OMG I sent it! It is a scary moment when you step out of your comfort zone but a couple of hours later I had forgotten about it and things were back to normal. I did not die (I thought that when I did my first video). And there is a level of confidence needed for this step.
About a week later I got the email saying that my article was approved and that I would get my login details. I was so excited and we had a little dance party with the kids. I also celebrated with the Entrepreneurial Supermoms Group (thank you for the support). After that two weeks went by and I didn’t hear anything. No login info.
I started to doubt myself. I thought “Did I really get the initial email?” I checked and it was definitely real. So I followed up. Had I not done the follow up I would still be here waiting to this day. So if you are ever wondering what happened with a client, with a potential opportunity or anything like that simply follow up.
So if you want to write for the Huffington Post, write a book (thats on my list BTW), start a podcast or ANYTHING at all that you want to do that seems big and scary….just do it.
What is one step you can do to reach your next goal? Leave me a comment below I would love to hear form you.
Oh and by the way here is the post if you want to check it out.
