How To Leave Network Marketing and Start a Serviced Based Business

When I started with online business, I was an independent distributor for a well-known health related network marketing company. Although I would never change my experience because it taught me so much about online business, I realized that it was just not for me.

After my daughter was born a preemie in August, I realized that my desire to help moms to work from home was more than just helping them to become health and fitness coaches. I did want to help moms to create their own income (which I helped a few people to do through network marketing) but I wanted to help them on a much larger scale. I realized that my calling was to help moms to be free from the 9-5 struggle.

I realized that my calling was to help moms to be free from the 9-5 struggle. And I did not want to be limited to helping only moms who wanted to be health and fitness coaches. Instead, I wanted to help all moms who wanted to create business online so they could stay home with their kids.

Since stepping away from network marketing, I have been able to help moms in all different areas of expertise (from doulas to mindset coaches and even a potty training expert) to build their businesses while staying home with their kids. This truly lights me up and makes me so much more fulfilled.

I often get asked how I transitioned so today, I wanted to share with you some of the steps that I took when I left network marketing and started my serviced-based business.

Discover Passion

Before you completely change your business model the single most important thing you can do is not jump head first into your next idea. Instead, figure out what you are passionate about and have a strong why around it.

Stepping into your purpose makes reaching your goals much easier and more fulfilling. Click To Tweet

If you are reading this, most likely you are already thinking about leaving network marketing. So if that is not jiving for you, it’s important to figure out why. Are you no longer passionate about the products you are selling? Is it the clients you currently have? Or maybe it is something else (Identify these things).

No matter where you decide to go next, be it a different network marketing company, a different business idea or even back to your 9-5 it is important that you do it intentionally. Basically, what I am saying here is don’t jump head first into the next great idea, make sure it’s a good fit before you dive in. I go into more tips on things to consider before making a change in your business in this  video.

Really take some time here to identify what it is that you LOVE to do and what you do not like.

The exercise: Write down everything you have done for the last 10 years (every job and business) list what you liked and disliked about each. List what skills you gathered along the way that could help you in your next business venture. You will see patterns among all of these. Those patterns will show you where your strengths are and what things you really don’t like at all.

Do Market Research

Now that you have identified your passion. You maybe are starting to get a good idea of what you want to do next. It’s important to be sure that there is a market for this..AKA buyers. Market research will help you to identify who your ideal client is, who you want to and do not want to work with. Sorry ladies but we cannot help everyone.

What I did to complete market research, besides the usual online research, I interviewed real people who were my ideal clients. Through doing this I got, even more, clarity around the people that I wanted to work with and who I did not want to work with. I also realized who I could help and those that I simply could not help.

The mistake that I often see entreprneurs make is that they do market research and just stop there. There is a way to analyze the info and apply it to your business that makes a much greater impact. And once you have done this, this is when you start attracting ideal clients to you. I get deep in this in my intensive.

The Exercise: Interview at least 10 people for market research. Ask them what they are struggling with as it relates to the area that you want to help them with. See if you could actually help them and see if you enjoy that work. Plot all of this info on a spreadsheet so that you can get a birds eye view. Here is some awesome sauce for you! This spreadsheet is also gold for copywriting so use it when you write your website and sales page.

Coach for Free

Now that you have an idea of what you want to help people with, who your ideal client is and how you can help them, it’s time to practice. This is the fun part!

Now you may be thinking, how can I coach for free? I want to make money.

Remember that this is a way for you to practice and refine your skill. I have found that for my clients, this piece is super valuable because it allows them to refine their process, practice their skills and also gives them confidence in what they are doing.

Lastly, remember that these people will become your biggest cheerleaders and may even buy from you.

The Exercise: Coach or consult with at least 2 people for free. The length of the term would reflect one of your packages you will be offering so you refine the process.

Your decision to leave your network marketing business and create a serviced based business should be done methodically. This change will completely change your business model so it is super important that you do it methodically.

First, the goal is to identify what you like to do, what you are good at and where you could really make an impact. You want to have a deep why for taking on this new business. Remember that just like any other business, it won’t always be roses and butterflies so having a deep why will keep you going through the rough spots. The next step is market research in the form of interviews. Lastly,  you want to do some free coaching and consulting to refine your processes.

If you are new to online business, it can be a struggle to know where to spend your money and where to save your money. I created a video lesson to help you decide and added it to the “The First 10 Steps to Creating an Online Business that Frees You From the 9-5 Struggle” download. If you feel that
